Welcome, Belal Elrahal!

I am pleased to announce that Belal Elrahal joined our faculty earlier this month.

Belal is working in the field of criminal law and procedure and will specialize in impaired driving and motor vehicle law. Belal joins our colleague Melanie Crenshaw as co-faculty lead for the School of Government’s work with the state’s nearly 700 magistrates. Melanie organizes, administers, and teaches civil law content for magistrates; Belal is her criminal law counterpart. Given Belal’s specialization in impaired driving and motor vehicle law, he also will advise, write for, and instruct a wide array of court officials and advocates.

Belal served as an assistant public defender in Mecklenburg County for nearly 8 years before joining the School. He is a graduate of Davidson College and the UNC School of Law. Belal also serves in the Judge Advocate Corps of the U.S. Army Reserves, where he recently was promoted to Major.

We are excited to have Belal on board. He is already fielding requests for assistance and working on a post for this blog! Please extend to Belal a warm welcome to the criminal law and courts community. You can reach him by email at elrahal@sog.unc.edu or by phone at 919-962-7098.
