Today is GiveUNC day, the university’s annual one-day fundraising event for alumni, faculty, staff, supporters, and fans of Carolina to contribute to UNC programs and causes that they find most meaningful and impactful. UNC Chapel Hill is truly a unique and remarkable place, and we could not do it without you. To quote from the GiveUNC website: “From world-class research, innovation and education to community, collaboration and service to the state, it’s the people that bind Tar Heels across the globe to this extraordinary university. By participating in GiveUNC, you are supporting the passion, determination, creativity and excellence of the people who are truly making Carolina a place like no other.”
While there are countless university endeavors worthy of support, the UNC School of Government stands out. Here at the SOG, we are continuing the tradition of public education and service first conceived by Albert Coates in 1931. That’s 94 years of training, advising, and publishing practical scholarship for local and state government officials, public employees, citizens, and others in the state. We continually strive to carry out our mission of improving the lives of North Carolinians, and your financial support helps us to expand our reach and impact. A short video from our Dean, Aimee Wall, describing our work and commitment to public service is available here. If you or your community have benefitted from our work and you are able to do so, please consider contributing today. You can target your gift to the SOG generally, or to any number of SOG programs specifically, such as the Judicial College, the Public Defense Education fund, Lead for North Carolina, the Center for Public Leadership and Governance, or the Criminal Justice Innovation Lab, among many others.
