New Bulletin on Bail Bond Forfeitures by Brittany Bromell

I am happy to announce the publication of a new Administration of Justice Bulletin on Bail Bond Forfeitures. This bulletin details the law on bail bond forfeitures as provided by Article 26 of Chapter 15A of the North Carolina General Statutes. The bulletin starts with general context on bail bonds and who may post them, then details the requirements for providing notice of bail bond forfeiture, having a forfeiture set aside, and obtaining relief from a final judgment of forfeiture.

Bail bond forfeiture proceedings span both criminal and civil law and can involve various actors. I would like to extend a special thank you to my colleagues (past and present) who offered their expertise and helped ensure this writing was as thorough, accurate, and useful as possible. I welcome your questions and feedback. Please feel free to email me at bwilliams@sog.unc.edu.
