I find it very interesting that drug treatment court continues to be included in general statutes but all state funding for drug courts was terminated earlier this year (an extremely short-sighted decision in my opinion). Does the legislature not realize that most counties with drug courts will not be able to sustain their programs without funding? The program in my district was only able to continue operations because the county commissioners voted to provide monies for one year. There is no guarantee that it will still be around this time next year. If it’s going to be included as an intermediate option for probation then they might want to think about paying for it.

This is a very informative article. My question is whether the JRA makes any other blocks, besides Class H Level I (C/I/A) or Class I Level II (C/I) a block in which community punishment is an option?

If not, the legislature could have avoided the confusion altogether by eliminating the community punishment option entirely, even if it left it as the only "option" for a Class I Level I.
