I would like input from School of Govt staff regarding Warrantless Searches for probationers. There have been differing thoughts regarding the need for probable cause prior to conducting a warrantless search of an offender. Where, if at all, does probable cause tie in, in relation to the warrantless search condition of probation?

Additionally, is a Probation Officer justified in conducting a warrantless search, based on a tip of criminal activity, that comes from Law Enforcement, or from the community.

Your input is appreciated....
